3 Day Workshop series - change of date

29 November 2012
Registrations close : Friday 9th Nov

EMSA offers a range of specific workshops for its members and those seeking to deepen their understanding and practice of management systems. The workshops are offered at a discount to EMSA members.

Day 1. Moving beyond the basics

This workshop covers the fundamentals of ISO 14001, and ‘goes beyond’. It is aimed at an informed audience, who are looking to build on and maintain their existing EMS. It investigates and ‘unpacks’ the ISO 14001 elements, and examines how to link with other Standards with a view to developing an integrated management system. The workshop will consider going beyond merely meeting the requirements of the Standard and consider what other components of management need to be addressed to gain the greatest benefit from the EMS.

Date: 29st Nov. 9.00 am
Facilitator: Genevieve Carruthers, Carruthers IMS Consulting

Day 2: Managing systems elements

This workshop will be run in two sessions which can be booked individually or separately.

Session 1: Keeping up to date with legal and other requirements

This session is presented in collaboration with Environment Essentials and covers what the AS/NZS14001 Standard requires in terms of ‘legal and other requirements’, how to identify these, keep them up to date, and what to do with the information. The session will include a demonstration of the Environment Essentials EnviroLaw and Aspect Link products.

Date: 22nd Nov 9.00 am to 12.30 pm
Facilitators: Genevieve Carruthers, Carruthers IMS Consulting and Shona Cameron Environmental Essentials

Session 2: Risk assessments, setting reasonable targets and developing performance indicators

This session discusses identification of aspects and impacts, methods of risk assessment, what risk criteria should be included and how they could be developed, used, and the outcomes recorded, methods of determining ‘significance’, and the setting of realistic targets. Consideration of the development of key performance indicators and methods of measurement will round out this session.

Date: 22nd Nov 1:30 pm to 5.00 pm
Facilitator: Genevieve Carruthers, Carruthers IMS Consulting

Day 3 : Workplace health and safety

This one day workshop will use Australian Standard 4801, in conjunction with new Workplace Health and Safety legislation, to provide a start for those who wish to develop a workplace health and safety management system. The workshop will focus on the interaction between a WH&S system and other management systems (for environmental and quality assurance). Participants will determine key policy points, learn how to identify hazards and conduct a risk assessment, consider communication, consultation and training needs, and discuss reporting and documentation.
